The Belfast Health and Social Care Trust (BHSCT) treat approximately 210,000 inpatient and day patients a year, see 680,000 outpatients and more than 200,000 people at A&E departments. BHSCT are also responsible for between 500 and 550 children on the child protection register and every year receive 800 referrals for children in need of support. The trust also provides services for older people through nine residential homes and commission services from the independent and voluntary sector to support older people. The Belfast Health and Social Care Trust works alongside Business in The Community to maintain responsible business practices which help them provide a better service to those in need. The Trust has been involved in a number of programmes with Business in The Community including employee volunteering challenges, environmental sustainability and has developed links with education.

The Belfast Health and Social Care Trust provides a huge number of placements to students in a variety of occupational areas, ranging from administration to work shadowing a surgeon.

The Belfast Health and Social Care Trust works exclusively with Work Inspiration – to gain access to work experience and work inspiration opportunities students should ask their careers teachers to contact the Work Inspiration office on their behalf.

Occupational areas for placements: Clinical professions and other services.

Occupational areas for open days: Labs, Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy, Radiotherapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Physiotherapy, and Mental Health. Limited placements per school.

Limitations: Year 12 minimum for all placements. Nursing or Midwifery is 16 plus, Medical is Year 13 plus.
