Belfast Trust Virtual Work Experience Medical Programme

Date: Monday 6th March 2023

Times: 9.15 am – 1.15 pm (students can join from 9.05 am to enable this to start promptly at 9.15am). Please note it may finish earlier, however due to previous over-running and student feedback asking for a break the time of the event has been extended)

Platform: Microsoft Teams

Limitations: Year 13 & 14

Prior to Covid, the Belfast Trust had been providing a 2.5 day medical work experience programme to give Year 13 and 14 students, with the aspiration and ability to study medicine, an insight into the career of medicine in a hospital environment. However, due to the COVID19 pandemic we are unable to provide this programme until further notice. As students make decisions about their next steps, we want to ensure that they are still informed as best they can be, therefore we are organising a short, live, virtual programme.

The programme will involve Belfast Trust medical staff talking about their experiences of being a doctor. Students will also be encouraged to participate through their mobiles or school devices if permitted.

The Trust are running this as a ‘meeting’ rather than a live event and therefore despite it being ‘online’ numbers of attendees will be capped per school to ensure maximum participation from schools.  As previously, if schools have big numbers of interested students they may be asked to ‘stream’ this in a classroom/hall/library etc.

So in the first instance please register your interest as a school in participating and advise on your numbers. We will need to know how you plan to run this so we can manage ‘spaces’ for this in the meeting.

Register your interest:  No requests will be taken by individual students or parents – the register of interest must come from the school.

Please note, the Medical Team continue to discuss the return of the in-person medical work experience and Work Inspiration will advise when this can return.
