International Men’s Day

Come and Hear from Men Leading by Example

(Whilst this is occurring on International Men’s Day – we appreciate that the content is also of value to your female students, and many of the areas will provide them with insight and learning.  As many schools are also co-educational it is also only appropriate that both the boys and girls in the school can participate).

Age: students aged 14+

Date: 19 November 2021 (times approx. 9.45am – 12 noon)

This event is set up to be streamed in the school rather than individual students signing up individually.  This is being run as a Discovery Workshop.

Business in the Community (BITC) is working in partnership with Speakers for Schools NI, to host an online event to provide young people with the opportunity to engage with an array of inspirational guest speakers, who will discuss some of the career challenges they have encountered over the years.

They will provide a brief overview of their chosen career path, key career highlights but will also reference the motivation, determination and resilience required to thrive in their chosen career. In addition, some of our speakers will discuss their own career pathway and their experiences of being men working in roles that are traditionally considered female dominated.

Chairing the event and leading the Q&A with our guest speakers is Jonathan Ireland, Co-Founder & Partner at Lanyon Group.

Guest speakers are:

  • Liam O`Connor, Senior Key Account Manager at Huhtamaki NI
  • James Worrall, Founder & CEO of Leaders in Sport
  • Shaddai Tempo, PhD Researcher in Childhood Studies
  • Connor Smyth, Irish Dancer & Motivational Speaker (and recent winner of the Channel 4 series, ‘SAS: Who Dares Wins’)

Participating groups will have the opportunity to take part in a Q&A with our guest speakers.  (We can provide links to their organisations and biographies of the speakers closer to the time).

Through this event, we hope to inspire young people and provide them with the opportunity to learn about the careers and how to overcome any challenges that they may encounter along the way.
